KWA KM17 (or Glock 17)

Some may of seen this coming but here it is; my review of the KWA KM17.
Purchased from Airsoft World at just under £100 it is the extremely affordable for all those with terrible jobs (Myself included).

Quick side note about AW before the review starts, they have really stepped up their game, 24 hour delivery actually means 24 hour to these people.

Unboxing

Plain box with no marks or pictures other than the KWA logo and motto, inside the gun, magazine, bbs, loading tool and hop adjustment lever. My first quibble - no manual, seems relatively minor but which way do I adjust the hop? And other mysteries I will get to later.

Not too weighty not too light, the aggregate weight with the mag is just over the weight of a plastic slide KSC sig I’m using as a comparison. The first bit that really impressed me? It comes already greased and with enough gas for about 15 shots. This could be good or bad but I have a gun ready to go instantly.

Feel

The slide is metal with everything else being a plastic polymer. Plastic is the same as the KSC, slide feels like a lightweight alloy. Very well balanced, I find using guns with plastic slides a bit ridiculous yet some metal slide guns are top heavy, this is the perfect medium. Lovely metal *chink with the slide is racked that I always look for.

Looks

First thing you may have noticed; its 2-tone right? Well KWA have been very clever here and coloured it to look like the training version of the real Glock and have succeeded quite well in my opinion. That is how 2-tone should be done and the usual culprits (surplusstore *cough*) now have no excuses.

The sights have white highlights and a white dot, not special but I’ve seen many pistols missing this. It’s scattered with trademarks on the left side, but utterly devoid on the right side. Also has a unique serial number on the side, for identification I guess?

Use

Blowback is lovely and crisp, very loud report and smooth action (probably due to the grease). The magazine is pretty special, it locks down the bottom and has a loading tool which means you can refill in seconds really. The gas is slightly harder, there is a cover at the bottom, and you pull down a lock on the mag and slide it forward. Valve is silent which is another brownie point. One full fill gave me 2 mags and still going so I guess the NS2 gas system (which is basically the system 7) works. After firing both mags cool down was negligible, I have seen a video where it is shooting strong in freezing, snowbound conditions so you can probably use this in winter (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Accuracy:
At 10 Metres all 15 rapid fire shots on target of an A4 piece of paper. I have no criticisms of that.
Range:
With no hop adjustments, it drops around 35-40 metres, admirable but I think it could do better. I play woodland so will have to have a fiddle with the hop, maybe clean the barrel.

Conclusion?

Get it before the price is jacked up, I am incredibly pleased with this. It packs a punch well above its RRP and is so much more satisfying then TM. Now just imagine how pleased I’d be if it wasn’t blue!

Hope this review will help as I found getting info on this difficult to say the least.
Skirmish report to follow hopefully

Now to try and find the safety…..

one charge of gas lasted over 80 rounds. i dont know if that is just because its the first use but that is incredible

thanks
i reccomend it, so much better than the ksc version (admittidly if you are willing to spend a lot more you could probably find better but even the plastic slided model i was comparing it to was £30 more expensive so it will cost you)
i might get the magpul fpg conversion kit from ebaybanned, apparently there is a way to make glock 17's fit
and its £40 so why not (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Nice review buddy.

I can't remember and can't be bothered to google it (just got back from a heavy booze filled weekend) but if this is a clone of KSC I may have a slide somewhere.

KSC and KWA are a weird pair, basicaly the make the same items in diffrent factories KSC in Japan and KWA in Tiwan. Plus the KSC stuff is 'apparently' made from better materials with more care a precision so 'supposed' to be better. But KWA are not so much clones of KSC but alternative versions.

Though this is an intresting little pistol, sort of a Glock 17 and 19 crossed. Glock 19 length barrel and slide with the longer handgrip of the Glock 17.

@ master shaker.. what do you mean there are no mentions of extended mags in the review, just the standered mag the thing comes with...

the one thing i think it needs - a 50rd mag
ksc make the only one for gbb glocks as far as i am aware and as soon as i can ascertain whether their mags are compatible i will be getting one
